Are there indications that different chemicals like pesticides and organochlorine chemicals have the same final pathway to do harm prenatally in the brain? I mean is intra-uterine growth retardation the primary insult and result that in later diseases?

I doubt the pathways have to be common. Rat behavioural studies show that perinatal exposure to endocrine disrupters can have opposite effects when the offspring is tested in adulthood depending on:
*which compound
*same compound but whether male or female
*same compound but which brain circuitry is involved in the behavioural paradigm (e.g. hippocampus in water maze vs. cerebellum in inhibition of startle response)
So effects of exposures to single compounds are subtle, and hard to explain with common pathways.

Hope this helps,
Steven
